about
Pulling the shirt from his chest, Meilyr Jones digs deep inside to become Byron’s imagining of Don Juan, a shy, sweet and idealistic hero, who tries his best to do good, more seduced than seducer.
‘Don Juan’ is a song about the sting of heartache and the bitterness of denial. Set against the rolling hills of the countryside, Jones finds his longing is left cold and un-consoled by modern pop culture, the radio regurgitating the same clichés of My Generation and All Shook Up, again and again. Set alongside harpsichord and sighing strings, Meilyr worked with early music recorder players for a pastoral sound, inspired by listening to a lot of Baroque music. “that and The Smiths” of course, Meilyr adds.
